Other Lizards
Currently the only other lizards I have are Brown striped basilisks and Forest Armadillo lizards. I'm probably going to split these guys into two seperate pages to give more information about them but for now they're getting clumped together here, especially with how busy I've been lately.

The basilisks are probably some of my favorite lizards ever. They are very beautiful but need a large cage with a big swimming bowl. A big 55 gallon tank is the smallest I'd recommend so long as it has lots of arboreal branches, plants and places to climb and hide. Temperature should be between kept about 75 or 78 degrees with UV lamp and a 60-70% humidity level for non-breeding months, moved up to 80% humidity to encourage breeding. They eat about anything that crawls from crickets and mealworms to other lizards and even small snakes. I'll put up more information soon.

Despite what I've read online about the Forest Armadillo Lizards these guys are very gentle lizards. They are also very good eaters. They'll go after about anything that wiggles and will fit into their mouths; mealworms, crickets, roaches, etc. They're native to the African desert so they like a lower humidity of about 50% and temps of about 75F on the cool side and 85F on the hot side with a basking spot that gives up to 95F. I recommend a combination of heat pad and basking lamp as well as a UV lamp. Calci-sand helps to retain a little heat and lets the lizard "burrow" under rocks in it's cage to give itself a feeling of security, much as it would in it's natural habitat. More information soon! |
